Each animal arriving from the zoo as a possible pet fails to suit its prospective owner, until just the right one is found. Movable flaps reveal the contents of each package.

This just sends me back to kindergarten again. Initially got it for teaching a class, but didn't use it. Also, why are all the animals male?

I don't love the messaging that if something isn't perfect, we send it back, but both Ms and Mx like this book. Lift up flaps and repetition are a big hit with the kiddos. Ms especially loved this book and would often request to sleep with it in his crib.

I did not like the story in the beginning but my baby just loves the book and we read it everyday.
The flaps are quite resistant which was a nice surprise.

This is a fun learning your animals book. My kids love lifting the flap and calling out what animal it is.

So, a fun idea, but unfortunately, this book is dated and gender stereotyped. With books like this -- depicting all eight different animals as male -- no wonder kids go to the zoo and call every single animal "him" unless it is obviously nursing an infant. Sandra Boynton's books are a great alternative, and not so painfully and unnecessarily gendered.

Our whole family loves this, but it's another kid's book where all the characters are male. Gotta change those pronouns up.

Young readers love lifting the flaps to discover the animals the zoo has sent-a monkey, a lion, and even an elephant! But will they ever find the perfect pet?

This book is about a boy who wants a pet, so he writes a zoo a letter asking them to send him an animal. The only problem is that every animal that gets sent to him has a flaw to why it is not fit to be a pet. The zoo finally send him a puppy in the end. This is great entertainment for preschoolers.

Picture book with bright colorful animals. The child in the book asks the zoo for an animal but the zoo sends him animals that are too large and he returns them until he receives a dog. The book doesn't seem to have a message but its an enjoyable book to read for children that enjoy touching pictures.

This book can be used to introduce describing words to lower level students. It is also an interactive book because it has flaps that hides a picture.

This is a very interesting book and i believe that children will love it. It also teaches children the characteristics of different animals.

A reckless grandmother dispatches a clueless pre-school infant to undertake menial labour on her farm unattended. Unsurprisingly, without guidance, the child takes forever to complete the simplest tasks. Oh, dear! Grandma will regret her cavalier attitude to childcare one day.

Dear Santa,

Please send Rod Campbell a sequel to 'Dear Zoo', but seal a cat in a non-porous, gift-wrapped container this time.

Rob Campbell's book is about a toddler getting dressed. The story follows how toddlers get dressed and the order to follow to put their clothes on. It is a good book for toddlers learning how to dress themselves.

This board book is narrative in format, following the story of a child looking for a pet. He/she writes to the zoo for help; the zoo responds by sending a number of animals that are inappropriate for the purpose of being a family pet. Examples are a camel, which is too grumpy, a snake, which is too scary, etc. Finally, the zoo sends a puppy, which is perfect. Each page has a crate on it and is made with a flap that, when turned down, reveals the animal. I think that very young children would find this format appealing.
