Thi s review pertains strictly to Volume 1: Edmund Candler was the official "Eye-Witness" to the campaign, and so, because of the censors, really didnt get hthe opportunity to publish his thoughts until after the campaign. This is one of the most straight-forward, honest assessments of the campaign that I have read. There is no sugar-coating when it comes to the wanton destruction and poor conditions the British inflicted upon themselves when trying to relieve the ill-fated 6th Division at Kut. Great coverage of the inidvidual battles leading up to the dramatic pause following Kut's surrender. Good anecdotes of camp life at the front and at the rear, to include Persia. The author's sharp wit is definitely a bonus.
