I'm feeling decidely out of touch after finishing this since the Kree Empire is evidently now on the verge of extinction. Looks like I need to catch up! This volume definitely improves on V1, but doesn't reach DeConnick's high bar. Carol uncovers a plot to turn humanity against her, and in the process a new superpowered character (hero? villain? dun dun dun) is intruduced: Star.

Though the "Carol losing her powers" plotline has been done to death, I still enjoyed this because of the character relationships. I love Carol's romance with Rhodey and her posse of heroine friends deserves more panel time. Plus, the bickering friendship between Carol & Tony just works.

Overall, a decent plot (please no more power draining!) elevated by great character moments.

Though I enjoyed her series, I'd fallen behind in reading Carol's adventures; DeConnick was the last run I read in full. My sister surprised me with the first two trades of Carol's latest series by Thompson, so I happily dived in.

Like many trades, there is a brief recap on the title page to bring readers up to date on the state of affairs. And the state of affairs has evidently been rectonned. Carol is now the daughter of a kree warrior woman, an accident activating "latent" powers, and with a brother that required her to take time of superheroics to care for after a near fatal accident. I wasn't bothered by this since it happens pretty frequently. It does mean that this is yet another soft reboot and so it's a solid action story without much consequence. Nuclear man lures Carol into a portal in MidTown. Many familiar heroines are trapped on the other side within a time dilation so no one realized they were missing. They need a leader for their rebellion against the misogynist Nuclear Man: Carol.

The best part of the book is Carol telling Rhodey, who she had been dating before he was killed in the awful, lackluster "Civil War II", that she is glad he's back from the dead. Only in comics! LOL! Overall, the story has Carol coming our of her sabbatical with fists flying. Hopefully the next volume will be higher, further, faster.
