I liked this book for several reasons. The big idea of this book is to show how different families (animal families) get ready for bed. I liked that on every page there was a new “family” that was being described. I liked that the families were all animals. The book features beavers, owls, bears, geese, and many more animals. This shows how the bedtime routine is different in many different families – even though the families in this book are animals. The animals portray human-like characteristics such as reading bedtime stories, brushing their teeth and taking baths. I also liked that the illustrations were details and included bright colors. The reader is drawn to the illustrations, especially because there is not a lot of text per page. Although there is no specific story line to follow, the reader is walked through different bed time routines of the different animal families and this repetition makes it easy to follow along and predict what comes next in the story. The fact that animals portray these human like characteristics engages the reader and helps them reflect on their own bedtime routines or practices.

Animal parents help their children prepare for bed. This is a short, simple bedtime story for young children. The illustrations are all very sweet, and are almost all images of families. Children will see baby animals go through some of the same bedtime routines they do, such as brushing teeth, taking a bath, or saying prayers. They will also learn some of the correct names for the particular kind of baby animal on the page, as well as the parents.
