- Kathleen Daly was born into a Fenian family in Limerick in 1878. She married Tom Clarke, who had met her uncle John while in prison in England. Upon his release they met and got married. Both her husband and her brother, Edward, were executed for their part in the Easter Rising of 1916 by the British. Kathleen was subsequently prominent in both Cumann na mBan and Sinn Féin and ultimately opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty. She remained with Sinn Féin until 1926 when she became a founder member of Fianna Fáil and would serve as a TD, Senator and Councillor for that party. She was also the first female Lord Mayor of Dublin. She broke with Fianna Fáil during the early 1940s and joined the Clann na Poblachta party. Upon her death in Liverpool in 1972 she was granted a State Funeral.
