This book has one benefit over others, it demonstrates in detail a wide selection of non-Latin scripts. Apart from the usual western scripts, - Foundational, Italic, Uncial, etc., and also a number of projects using them, even to the extent of relief carving on wood, it explains that it is a mistaken belief that all European text is based on Latin alphabets, and then shows relationships between Greek, Russian Cyrillic, Arabic and Hebrew. Following those, together with related projects, it then moves on to Pictographic scripts, Chinese and Japanese, again followed by projects. The templates could be useful to illustrate the projects, particuarly for anyone lacking confidence in their drawing ability.
Finally, it lists (with an American influence) Calligraphic societies, suppliers and websites.… (mehr)
