The author uses musical improvisation to understand spiritual practices such as Sabbath observance, Bible reading, journal keeping, tithing, and praying.
Perhaps there is nothing new under the sun, even in writing about spiritual practices. Conti-Entin, a musician, at the least brought forward a new metaphor for the Divine: duet-companion. This is a very readable pamphlet, in spite of its age (written in 1989).
This is a helpful clear discussion of five spiritual disciplines, and how they can aid in spiritual growth, as used in reliance upon the spirit's direction. She describes faithful living: set aside time to get to know God (Sabbath keeping), and in this we will learn about others' journeys (Bible reading) and ponder our own journey (journal keeping). Warm-up exercises (like tithing) gradually enable us to place our complete trust in God. The entire process of spiritual development finds its expression in prayer.… (mehr)
