A girl saves a fantasy land from conquerors.

3/4 (Good).

Visually, it's very cool. The story is unremarkable, and it gets pretty slow in the few scenes without Wacky Creatures.

Johnny Cash gets famous, does drugs, and woos June Carter.

2.5/4 (Okay).

It's loaded with terrible impressions of famous people, but the story's not bad.

as mostly, more thoughts than a rounded, elaborate, review:

Enjoyable film, in a flash the life = work of this artist. Most liked all the embedded songs , not bad sung, and the June Carter. (role and character)
Nice to see how the talented boy, named Johnny, grows to a good artist. Believable acting, nice guy.

(Again) we see how an artistic life has it's reverse, (If one to do that ultimate, one lacks time for other things like family life. as a performer on tour extra difficult plus how can you excell five times a week without artificial help of pills? ).

In a few scenes they showed
- the unsatisfyingness for his wife, (but never is shown she supports, his career, other than staying at home with the children, waiting),
- the attitude of his father to John, as a child and as grown-up.
- his compassion with people like the prisoners
These themes rather superficial developed to / just slightly touched, to me. Maybe not important in this film. ( i must say i missed the beginning of the film, - the first scene i saw, his brother was dying. That first scenes explained same of the gap between father and Johnny, and suggestively some motivation or problems of/in Johnny's career).

The realistic feelgood came from June Carter, that lovely, talented woman, who knew the showworld and how to combine that with 'real life 'people, Johnny included.
Smiled on how, in the end, Johnny within the promised restriction, managed to 'fetch over' her to marry him.

i liked:
When you choose to work from your heart: -
The first song they have taped was about is thoughts after his experiences in the army,
Ths songs that encouraged the prisoners - it works out well. (provided that you are talented)

- The houses he lived in gave signals about his career, kind of theme.

- Seeing Jerry Lee Lewis (and Elvis?) in the same show as Johnny , also in the beginning of their carreer.

I always wonder how realistic these films are, in several ways.

three stars, for now. three stars is not little. I did like the film.
