One of the most important things I look for in a book is the ability to make me feel some emotion. Some books make me feel happy, some sad, and some, like Saving Grace, give me a whirlwind ride of emotions. The book starts out a little slow, but by the end of the second chapter, I was fully invested in Grace and intrigued by Declan. At the beginning, I shared Grace's skepticism of Declan's motives, then as we learned more about her past, I felt her pain and frustration. Elizabeth Doherty gave Grace a personality that I connected to on many levels, which is what ultimately led me to give this book five stars. It was easily one of the most enjoyable light romance books I have read in some time.

My only (very small) criticism of the book is that I didn't learn the last name of Grace's best friend, Ridley, until well into the last half of the book. I felt like that detail should have come out in the first few pages and might have helped me to connect with Ridley's character a little more.

Overall, I was very impressed with this book. The quirky cast of characters kept me turning the pages to see what new warnings Jack and the band had in store for poor Declan. If you enjoy a quick, fun read with the occasional laugh out loud antics, I highly recommend Saving Grace. This is the first book that I have read by Doherty, but I fully intend to put the rest of this series on my to-read list as soon as they become available.… (mehr)

This is a short story of a love at first sight where one desperately seeks ardor, and the legitimate doubts which seal any nascent spark and which are, moreover, legitimate, which would end this book, very short. , and ultimately disappointing, devoid of intrigue and psychological subtleties.
It does not reproduce the feelings experienced by these two young people, who are as spectators of their own feelings, lukewarm and as absent from their own lives, which is made even worse by the plethora of short and banal dialogues that they continually exchange. .

Elisabeth Doherty's Kindle Editions novel "May day (with every beat)" opens a stage with a troupe of four young male musicians who have come to celebrate their recent musical fame during a concert, in a rural restaurant where the heroine works, May, as a waitress. This one is in the obligation of this food work in order to pay for its studies. We can see the cultural and social gap between these two young adults, who should never have met.

The tone is light, playful, devoid of the existential questions raised by habitual love. No allusion to the past life of the protagonists. Alone, the magic that takes place between them is recounted throughout the book!

I was left on my hunger when reading it, because the only representation of the two heroes of the story, is located in this dining room, monotonous and predictable, as frozen in a bubble, where time is absent. No expansion on other external events punctuates their meeting, slow, silent, where we even ignore their physical particularities!

The epilogue is all the more curious as the author announces, six years later, the outcome of their meeting, which is not even a surprise, before adding a few pages, thirty years later ...?
And there, we no longer understand what the novel wants to tell us, because there are obviously gaps to be filled in order to understand the progress.

This rural romance where float suspended in time, these two young lovers, invest quite awkwardly in their feelings, constitute the only thread of this short work, which one forgets as soon as read, alas. We would have hoped for many twists and turns, uncertainties, twists of fate, like life itself so fond of its depravities!

Grace is the 31-year-old daughter of a former rockstar. We learn that many years ago a teenaged Grace's heart was broken by the absence and inaccessibility of her father after the sudden tragic death of her mother. This heartbreak left Grace hesitant about relationships and distrustful of anyone who might break her heart again.

The plot of the story begins with Grace learning that the teen outreach program she works for has run out of funds and will close. Grace feels obliged to find a way to save the charity which once helped pull her out of sadness after the death of her mother. Along the way, she meets up with Declan, the lead of a struggling rock band who also feels desperate to find a way to rescue his band from obscurity. Together Grace and Declan plan to solve both of their problems by convincing her father's band to reunite for a charity reunion concert. This is a task that proves to be nearly impossible.

Saving Grace is the story of mended fences, rekindled relationships, and the growth of new love. It is a romance novel and, as such, it is not surprising that some aspects of the plot are predictable. Predictability does not detract from the experience of enjoying an innocent and heart-warming love story.

This book is a light read that can be enjoyed by anyone looking for an uplifting story with a happy ending.… (mehr)
