Herman Dreer was born and reared in Washington, District of Columbia. After Finishing the M Street High School - now the Dunbar - he graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine, winning membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Two years later, he obtained the M.A. degree in Latin from the Virginia Theological Seminary and College. He next studied scientific agriculture at the University of Illinois. Finally, he obtained the degree of Master of Arts in English and that of Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from the University of Chicago. At present he is professor of english and Social Science at the Harris Teachers College, and minister of the King's Way Baptist Church. He is the former editor of the Masonic Journal and of the Oracle of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
