Some Assembly Required by Margie Engel is a book that works like a map for designing quilts. For some, you can pretty much use the maps and try to duplicate their quilts. For me, the book is a great springboard, and I'll use a little from here and a little from there, and come up with my own design. Some Assembly Required teaches techniques for strip piecing, applique, color theory, balance and symmetry, trapunto, and embellishing.
