The story is very well put together for those who enjoy a thriller surrounded by a secret society so for example if you love the works of Dan Brown this story is completely up your alley!
This was a good page turner, as the story progresses you see that the characters are well developed and had lots of depth making this story even better Gabriella a woman of faith Alex a man who has lost his faith and a story and a past between them that makes you want to see a happy ending for them both. But they must first and foremost save the church before they can save each others broken hearts. The action surrounding the conspiracy to discredit the catholic church will not only make you want to read this in one night nut also read everything else by the author! I want to thank Netgalley Tom Fox and publishing company for this earc it was a really fun read and i look forward to more from this author!… (mehr)

On the same day that a group of cancer sufferers are found to be clear of disease and a group of blind children suddenly can see, a stranger walks into a service at St Peter's and the previously crippled Pope can now walk. The problem is that the latter event is not linked to the former. A plot is afoot to discredit the Pope and the Church and the stranger has arrived in the midst of this. Alexander is a former priest turned journalist who follows up leads about the 'miracles' and finds one of his contacts dead. He teams up with Gabriella, a glamorous police officer and his former amour, to investigate and the trail leads from high fiancee to a corruption at the heart of the Vatican.

This book is a fast read. It's a fairly formulaic thriller which doesn't really tie up all the loose ends, so one knows that there is a sequel in the offing. The plot is predictable and the writing adequate for this genre. I did enjoy it, but that was mainly because it didn't require a lot of concentration and was quickly finished.… (mehr)

I wonder why this book has missed being more widely noticed. I think it's really good, so much better than the Dan Brown crap of a decade ago. Dominus is better written and much more fun. The gunfights at the end are a bit bloody and the Swiss Guard don't come off so well, but that is the way of all thrillers, isn't it?

My only other objection, and it is a mild one, is that Alexander and Gabriella have a history that somehow includes crimebusting but this is Mr. Fox's first novel. We find out later that there might be a novella hanging around somewhere that describes these escapades. The book would have been stronger if the introductory novella had been made available somehow OR if this text had been purged of the few sentences that ref past crimebusting leaving only the acknowledgement of past meeting and strong attraction between Alexander and Gabriella that speeds the pace of events here.
