The geographic scope of this book includes Leelanau County (including Gull, North and South Fox, and North and South Manitou islands) and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the northwest corner of Benzie County in Michigan's Northern Lower Peninsula. As the title suggests, the bulk of the book consists of an annotated checklist of 278 species recorded since 1960, supplemented by bar graphs illustrating monthly distribution and abundance. An 7-page addendum adds three species recorded since the first printing in 1994 and provides revised early and late arrival and departure dates for another 61 species.
