Very sweet second-chance love story with some adorably charming grandmothers. I think the main characters, Elle and Mari, are the highlight and it's really nice to see them come back together. However, the dialogue is pretty stilted, and sounds more like an early draft that could have been polished up. I also wish the plot overall had been more fleshed out; it kinda jumped from point to point without much muscle in between.
Also I really wanna play bingo now...

The extra vignettes at the end are essential, complicating and filling in the parts of the main story that were too smooth and too brief. I wish they were better incorporated. Taken as a whole, this was lovely and sweet, definitely recommend!

graphic fiction - bisexual/pansexual Hazel Johnson and Mari McCray met at age 13 in Paterson, New Jersey (1963) and though their respective mothers/grandmothers forbid them to see each other anymore as teenagers, they find each other again in their sixties and then must decide what that means for their husbands/kids/grandkids (Englewood, New Jersey - 2015).

straightforward love story, most remarkable because of its representation with diverse characters (crowdfunded publication)

February 2024 bingo challenge - 2-word title, Black cover model, title includes "love", under 290 pages

Soooo sweet! I was very excited to see this comic at the library after seeing it promoted online, and it fulfilled expectations.

Writer Tee Franklin delivers a tender story of two African-American women who are starcrossed childhood sweethearts and reunite 50 years later. She hits all the right notes when it comes to a sensitive, authentic portrayal of queer African-American characters and the bittersweet experience of finding love in the last chapter of life. There are moments where dialogue or storytelling are clunky—a frame story, for instance, that doesn't get resolved by the end—but overall it's an engaging story with plot twists that surprised me.

I adored the art, drawn by Jenn St-Onge and beautifully colored by Joy San. St-Onge's characters are so expressive, and she does a wonderful job portraying them through the different periods of their lives.

It should go without saying that the creators deserves all the accolades for helping expand the range of stories that comics can tell. More of this, please!

This is a sweet love story, warmly told - a tale about forbidden love. It's also sad in many ways - because so many people have lived a similar life. The adorable art by Jenn-St-Onge and Joy San is wonderful.

I'm glad Harley and Ivy got a good ending here. Not sure if we're ever going to resolve the Miia plot...

A fun, chaotic romp as Harley's bat stuff and Ivy's crime stuff collide.

I've been waiting to read this book for a while, and finally got a copy of it yesterday. It did not disappoint. I loved the whole thing, and teared up at several parts. Fantastic love story!

Love seeing Harley and Batgirl spending more time together! Another fun romp, and I'm glad Harley at least has filled Ivy in on what she's doing.

This is a lot of fun! Mayor Joker and the whole City Hall situation is great. Loved watching Ivy interview folks for the Legion. Harley's new team-up is going... interestingly. And oh no, Ivy, what are you doing there at the end?½

Lovely story that had me crying. I wish it had been longer; some of the events and ending seemed rushed. Also wanted more details on Mari’s life. Maybe that will be in one of the sequels.

This is a fun little anthology featuring a bunch of the characters from the animated series. "Double Date" was my favorite story in here. I love Elle, and her relationship with Vixen, and their whole dynamic with Harley and Ivy. And it's great the amount of diversity/representation the writers just casually include -- in all the comics based on this series, really.

So much going on here! I love Knockout, the reveal about Lady Firefly being Bridgit paid by Black Mask, and the new mission to find Peaches's sister. And there's the slow burn of whatever Bella is doing...

It's dumb, sexy fun as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy take a road trip between seasons two and three of the animated series on HBOMax. They're trying to lay low, but of course end up involved in all sorts of shenanigans and hijinks . . . and beds, many beds.

I enjoy the show, and this book does a good job of capturing its salty, crude, and bawdy tone. And like the show, the plot doesn't necessarily make sense, but that's okay, because the relationship between Ivy and Harley is all that matters. And they are relationshipping all over the place here.

And with Max Sarin providing the art, it's like the show is having an unofficial crossover with John Allison's Giant Days. Bonus!

Harlivy is life

This is great. Please stream the show so that we can get more seasons and more comics. I want more and need issue #2. I am actually going to rewatch the show now.

This single-volume comic is about two women who fall in love as teenage girls, grow up to live separate lives and then years later, run into each other at a local bingo game. Their worlds and marriages turn upside down when they realize they still love each other, despite the decades that have passed them by.

This was sweet and full of heart but criminally short. Serious moments – like when Hazel confesses to her husband that she’s in love with a woman – are just a few panels long. The passing of time is implied but I never really get a chance to connect with characters, key family members or even the relationship between the two main characters, Hazel and Mari. Don’t get me wrong, this gave me all kinds of the warm fuzzies, because love is love. But this totally should have been a multi-volume series that took time to explore each relationship and the impact their reveal had on the family.

Sweet story, sweet romance, even with the delayed gratification! I didn't love that Elle's husband's story is just not there -- I think delving into it would have made for a richer narrative. I see that it's available in other places, just not sure it's worth tracking down for that. Really, though, love to see the representation, and the hope for love reunited.

It's great to see Ivy doing her thing. There's also a good bit of the hero/villain interaction this series does so well.

This is a fun little adventure with Harley and Ivy. I like the quintessential Harley Quinn non-linear storytelling, and the random other gay couple at the restaurant, and Nightwing's whole situation.

Love story between two women who meet at a church Bingo as teenagers. A story about love lost and love gained. Families, acceptance, grief and success. I really enjoyed this and would read more about how their lives end up.
