I have been itching to read this book again. The last time I did was in about the late nineties. I loved the author's delivery and his humor with such a serious issue as our right to free speech. His style makes this a very approachable book.

As a liberal, I often find myself falling into the trap of believing that the other side does not have the same view on things as I do, ever. As an artist, I feel that free speech and free expression are the most important rights that we have and are the rights that all of our other rights are built upon. Here, it was very refreshing to find that there are those on the opposite side of the aisle that are as passionate about free speech as I am, and that are incredibly smart about how to protect free speech.

This is a good read for anyone that is interested in art, politics, and free speech, or who are interested in the particular case that this addresses, the early nineties and the fight to keep the National Endowment for the Arts alive in the face of attacks in response to the works of, among others, Robert Mapplethorpe and Andres Serrano.
