With approval of the joint Board of Accreditation of the United States Fencing Association Coaches College and the San Jose State University Fencing Masters Program.

Learn the language of fencing.

William M. Gaugler is Professor Emeritus of Classical Archaeology and Director of the Fencing Masters Program at San Jose State University, California, the only university in the United States offering training and certification for fencing teachers.

Dr. Gaugler was a pupil of Maestro Aldo Nadi, Italian Professional Champion, Maestro Umberto Di Paola, Director of the Fencing Masters Preparatory Course at the National Institute of Physical Education in Rome, and Maestro Giorgio Pessina, President of the Italian Fencing Masters Association. He holds a fencing master's diploma from the Accademia Nazionale di Scherma in Naples, Italy.

This book is used in the education of all fencing instructors trained at the United States Fencing Association Coaches College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

'The intent of a dictionary of unversally used fencing terminology is, of course, to provide national examination commissions with a common guide to definitions of fencing actions. Mestro Gaugler's work fills this need admirably.'-Maitre Alex Beguinet, Director, United States Fencing Association Coaches College.

'Most writers would have limited their efforts to brief definitions. Not so Maestro Gaugler. He not only explains the commonly accepted terms, but manages to reflect the divergent meanings of the respective term in the context of the inividual fencing tradition. The Dictionary thus is not only the most comprehensive reference book of fencing terminology on the market today, it is in fact a crash course in fencing history-and a must-have for anyone with competition-level or teaching aspirations in fencing.'-J. Christoph Amberger, Editor and Publisher, Hammerterz Forum.

This dictionary establishes a common language of fencing and should be used as a companion volume to The Science of Fencng.
