This book doesn't cover all of Wilder's American films, but presumably these are the ones that best support the author's thesis of Wilder's work viewed as that of an exile in America. As such this academic study quotes very folks and the authors says how much he agrees with each. This is not a fun biography full of anecdotes, but it still reads fairly well and is interesting for anyone who has watched several Wilder films. Sometimes the academic-speak is a bit too much for an ordinary reader, however, and in his attempts to draw conclusions, sometimes the author has a few gaps in his argument.
