Unusual monograph of one the large US armored cruisers from the early 1900s. USS California / San Diego (the name was changed during the ship's life) was the largest US warship sunk by enemy action in World War One, The cruiser struck a mine laid by a U-boat in July 1918. The San Diego sank in shallow water just off of New York City and the wreck is a popular dive site. The author has dived the wreck numerous times and presents a very nice review of the wreck as well as a good history of the ship's service. Some of the writing in the dive portion of the book is a bit overwrought but the content is excellent and I enjoyed the book very much.… (mehr)
