i *devoured* this. commentary (maybe not quite enough? but really, she did so much here so i'm not sure) on class, race, gender, academia, ambition, influence. whew. the writing is sharp and i knew from the first sentence that i would really like this, and i was right.

the only thing that i really didn't much like was the reveal at the end that bethany's first husband, the one who went to jail, was mac's father. that felt too pat and convenient for me, by a pretty good margin. everything else i could suspend my disbelief for.… (mehr)
