This collection of stories were written by the father of W.S.Gilbert of Gilbert & Sullivan fame.
They concern a mysterious Wizard (or Innominato) who although reclusive is sometimes willing to receive supplicants and listen to their requests and problems. Usually these requests are agreed to,but often rebound in some way. One of the strongest of the tales is 'The Last Lords Of Gardonal' in which an evil Lord gets his just reward when the wife he has been determined to marry against her wishes,turns into a vampire.½
