This book would be good for primary to intermediate students. This book is "Rock Your Mocs" by Laurel Goodluck, illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight, and published in 2023. This book talks about different Native tribes and how moccasins are still worn to this day and how they are prideful. This can help with identity in the classroom and can help kids feel confident celerbating their heritage and their culture.

This is a great book about one girls emotions when her cousin moves away to a reservation. The girl wonders if her relationship will be the same and deals with loneliness. Great social/emotional learning messages and Native American representation. Would use with K-2nd as a read aloud to talk about family and emotions.

This would be a good book for primary and intermediate readers
This book is about a day to wear mocs in order celebrate the colors and art of the Native American Culture. It provides cultural context and uses words within their language to describe all of the different aspects of their culture
This would be a great book to have in a classroom to provide an opportunity for students to gain new perspective on Native American culture. It would also be useful during a unit where they are learning about different cultures to provide more insight.

This book would be good for primary students. This book is "Forever Cousins" written by Lauren Goodluck, illustrated by Jonathan Nelson, and published in 2022. This book Is about two cousins that are super close but one of the families has to move to the reservation because of the Indian Reservation Act. They are super worried that they will grow apart because their family has always been super close and they will miss each other. When they have their reunion, they are still super close. I think this is a good book to introduce the Indian Relocation Act in a child-like way and to teach how it affected families that are typically very close to one another.

This is a great that relates to families that sometimes have to move away and helps children be able to understand that they are not the only ones who g through missing family. Teaches children that it's okay to feel sad about it, but in the end family will always be there.

As Heartdrum publisher Cynthia Leitich Smith writes in her note, Rock Your Mocs is "...joyful...it showcases the diversity within the intertribal community...it radiates Native pride..."

Rock Your Mocs day was established in 2011 and is celebrated on November 15 each year. Each page and spread of this book shows different Native kids rocking their mocs with style; each is rendered uniquely.

Back/front matter: pronunciation guide, Rock Your Mocs Day, Moccasins, Indigenous Children, Dear Reader note from Cynthia Leitich Smith

Back matter includes an author's note and information about the federal Indian Relocation Act of 1956.

Story a delight.
Information at the end of the book from authors is perfect for all who don't have tribal kinships.

This was a great story. When I opened the pages, I was not expecting to hear a US indigenous story. This is about to cousins who live in the city, and one moves back to the “rez”. Will they still be friends? will they still like each other? The story is approachable to all with feelings of being “away” from family. What is interesting is the information in the back where the author talks about the Indian Relocation Act of 1956 which was pitched as a jobs act but was a way of assimilating native culture. This was a fantastic book both in story and education and I would be proud to put it on my library selves.
