Born and bred in Maine, John Gould (1908-2003) was well known for his acerbic Yankee wit. Over the course of his life he wrote dozens of books, and for an astounding sixty-two years he was a regular columnist for the Christian Science Monitor. The Fastest Hound Dog in the State of Maine von John Gould

Fred McGill used to read this book in a wonderful Maine accent to the delight of conference children visiting Star Island. We have tape recordings of him reading the Fastest Hound Dog in the State of Maine.

The Fastest Hound Dog in the State of Maine von John Gould

Quiet, deadpan humor easily lost on those from away. A good old yarn followed by "copious and scholarly" notes by the teller.
