This is such a lovely story. The miracles go too far for me, but they illustrate a man who lived for God and for others.½

A very useful version of the Old English text with modern English translation beneath.

Naturally the translation is somewhat dated - to be expected in a work first published over 100 years ago! - but it still gives the reader a good idea of the content of the original without the hassle of having to translate it oneself (vital for researchers who are pushed for time) and in a style which is evocative of the religious rhetoric being put to use both by Gregory and Alfred, something which it is possible would be missing from a translation into modern idiom and which would risk rendering the text soulless.

A forty homilies, in original Latin text and in Italian translation, collection , pronounced by Pope Gregory the Great, in different principal churches of Rome, at the end of VI century, when the city was menaced by Longobards. Ever sometimes difficult for nowadays mentality, it's a masterpiece in his genre and many of the homilies are still interesting and effective.
