Hebrew Manuscript Painting von Joseph Gutmann
Who knew? Judaic illuminated manuscripts from the Middle Ages, from Spain to Persia. A short (40 page) introduction in text and 40 color plates, with lots of B&W illustrations in the commentaries. The only real issue is with some of the photos being a bit blurry - other than that a fine, fine tome.
This is wonderful! I really enjoyed looking at all the illustrations of manuscripts.
Some beautiful folios in styles I've never seen before. wow.
From late Antiquity to late Renaissance, Jewish illuminations, in styles that are similar to those of the culture around them, yet with their own character.
