Too similar to Tom Quest and the Timber Giant, but still a fun read.

Gene faces a syndicate that is intent upon controlling the lumber business in the far west. Whoever is in charge of the syndicate is mighty powerful and will do anything, including murder, to achieve its goals.

This novel, for the nine to twelve year-old crowd, was written when it was clear who the good guys and the bad guys were. Gene Autry, my favorite cowboy as a child, takes the lead in overcoming all obstacles to ensure that good overcomes evil in this tale of fiction.
