An example of pure magic and escapism. Disney was an innovator, pioneer, revolutionary, visionary, & businessman.½

My family enjoys Fantasia. When my two children were young, maybe 3 and 4, they were completely entranced by it. The 8 year old is now interested in other things than watching Disney movies with us, but my 7 year old is still entranced. She really enjoys movies that seem heavy on the music (Sing, Trolls, etc) and even though this is sort of different, it still held her attention. The first song, with the interpretive art, was a little difficult to keep interested in, and the dinosaur one was not up her alley, but from The Sorcerer's Apprentice through the rest of the movie she was enthralled. I enjoyed the whole thing.
Will update when we watch Fantasia 2000

My daughters (age 7 and 8) and I decided to watch all of the Disney movies in order. Snow White is first, coming out in 1937! Whew. We all got very bored very quickly. Which isn't fair, because there are some very good parts. The beginning of the movie is slow, but once the Dwarfs are introduced the pacing is much better. Also I thought the scenes with the Evil Queen's black magic, and her interactions with Snow White are the best parts. And they are just powerful enough that my older daughter didn't was getting creeped out.½

In light of today's animated films, this is dated and slow-moving. Even the Seven Dwarves can't make me want to watch it again. And certainly the idea of Prince Charming is outdated.½

While the film with to a contemporary audience is rather hampered by an overreliance on gags and musical numbers while unfortunately minimizing the (already very simple) plot and character arcs, the movie remains a stunning achievement. Not to mention it still looks beautiful, and is (impressively) still frequently both funny and gripping.

A beautiful princess flees from a jealous queen.

I was literally grinning through the entire film. I can't believe I've managed to never see this movie until now. I guess I had just figured it was like all the Disney "classics" from the 50's and later that I'm familiar with. Nope, not at all. This is no less than one of the greatest films of all time.

The first year of a deer's life.

The animation is absolutely amazing - one of the most visually impressive animated films I've ever seen. But there's no story, so it's really boring to watch. Also, it bothers me that none of the animals in this forest eat each other.

Various pointless animated sequences.

Oh my God it's so boring. If they had given any of the segments other than "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" a story of some sort, it could have been a great movie. Instead we've got two hours of Characterless Things dancing around.

Walt Disney's timeless masterpiece is an extravaganza of sight and sound! See the music come to life, hear the pictures burst into song and experience the excitement that is Fantasia over and over again.
