This is a story that is part fairy tale, part Christmas story. The text flows smoothly and the rhyme works well. The colors are beautiful, but the illustrations themselves are uneven.

Pros: Aurora of the Northern Lights is a lovely story for readers who like fairy tales and who are looking for a fresh minimalist seasonal book.

Very cute story of Aurora finding her way back to her family. Very well wriiten. Great flow for reading out loud. Great illustrations. My only fault is that it shows people sending away someone different from them and would prefer to teach my child to be accepting of others.

In the land of the Northern lights lived an elf named Mistletoe. One day a young man enters her world and falls in love with her. They marry but he can’t live in the cold. They leave and go to his farm in a beautiful valley. They have a little girl and name her Aurora after the beautiful Northern Lights. When Aurora is seven she and her family get sick. Her parents die. She goes to the village to let the people know. Sure they will take her in. Because she is different from them they send her out of their town. She goes into the forest and the people there realize she is different from them and they send her off. The queen sends her to the north. She arrives at a castle and knocks on the door. She is greeted by Santa. He brings her in where she is accepted as she is. Suddenly she finds herself face to face with her grandmother and she knows she is home. Once again this is a book that talks about accepting people for who they are, in spite of their differences. The illustrations in this book were bright and cute.… (mehr)

"Named for the Northern Lights, Aurora faces a woeful plight. To many lands, she must roam, searching for her true home."

Aurora of the Northern Lights is a delightful story, beautifully illustrated and told entirely in verse.

Aurora is the child of a beautiful and pale young Northern lady named Mistletoe and handsome William, a visitor from the South. William finds the Northern climate difficult, so they make their home in the temperate South.

When Aurora is orphaned, she is unable to stay in her old home. As she searches for her new home, those that she meets along the way are quick to chase her off. To some extent the story is one of intolerance. But fortunately, with perseverance and luck, Aurora finds a place where she is welcomed and loved.

I found the book a fun and engaging read. I imagine that the pictures and verse will go over very well with children. I highly recommend Aurora of the Northern Lights.
