Carter Heyward is a pioneering feminist theologian. She is the author of eleven other books and had a distinguished teaching career for more than three decades at Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts. A collection of the author's essays, sermons, lectures, and liturgical poems representing the vision of many Christian feminists.
This book makes clear why religion and sex are so closely connected and why both are healthy only when infused by the love of justice.
The author sees Jesus as our brother, infused with a sacred power and passion for embodying right (mutual) relation, and ourselves with him in this commitment. She goes on to explore how we might live this way.
This has been a formative book for me recently. It has helped shape how I understand who I am. I strongly recommend it for anyone going through a discernment process related to ministry. It is also really important for those interested in the history of the ordination of women in the Episcopal Church in the Unite States.
