Outlines of Theology von A. A. Hodge

This is an excellent compendium of theology. A well written digest of Reformed theology with just enough scholasticism to challenge the veteran theologian! If I were teaching an introductory course I would use this work. A. A. Hodge was a scientific theologian with an exceptional ability to popularize technical theology. The chapter on theological prolegomena is my favorite, you can tell that he was well versed in methodology the hallmark of an academic teacher. He knew how to draw from the other theological disciplines in his exposition of doctrine.… (mehr)

Quoting from volume 3 of The Reformed Presbyterian and Covenanter [3.2 (February 1865): 63.]

"The contents of this pamphlet are, 1st, the charge delivered to the Professor by Rev. James M. Platt; and 2d, the inaugural address of Dr. Hodge. Each is excellent. Dr. Hodge's exhibits a measure of familiarity with the science of theology, and of judgment as to the methods of communicating it to students, not often paralleled. His Address is a concentrated and perspicuous presentation of the grand historic conflict of Christian principle. Mr. Platt's charge is comprehensive and faithful.… (mehr)
