Writing 3 years later, while the US is still committed to fighting in 2 countries, this is especially timely right now. There is a history of how the military and civilian government has interacted. There is a history of the first Bush and Clinton years and their generals. It sets the stage for McChrystal and Petreus relationship with Obama.

Now that it is clear we see China as our major opponent, not so much as a political or military threat, but as a cultural and economic threat, we want to know their ultimate plans for expansion. This article addresses this. There is an excellent map on page27, putting China in geographic context of its neighbors.
