Shakespeare by Hilliard von Leslie Hotson
An interesting argument for this Hilliard miniature being a portrait of Shakespeare, but I don't think I am as convinced as Professor Hotson obviously is!
This is probably the single-most influential book on Christopher Marlowe's life. Although it's nearly 80 years old, Hotson's book is still a touchstone for any serious biographical study of Marlowe. Hotson's almost accidental discovery of the records pertaining to Marlowe's death resolved a number of questions that had plagued scholars for 350 years, as well as bringing to light details about Marlowe's life that are still the subject of scholarly discussion and debate.
