Probability Theory: The Logic of Science (Vol 1) von E. T. Jaynes

Possibly the single most important book I have ever read. It is impossible to agree with Jaynes in every respect but equally every point he raises is fundamental to the use of statistics in science. Anyone educated in the axiomatic tradition needs to read this.
