I did not read the Sugartown books, so I went into this story 'blind' I guess you could say. Every character was starting at ground level for me. I must say this is a really gritty story. It definitely will not be for everyone. The author even has a note in the beginning stating that it will be a difficult story. I tend to love the damaged characters. Thus, Kick found his way into my heart.

Kick has had a terrible life. From the womb he has never had an easy go at anything. I just don't even know how the poor guy is still standing. He seeks no sympathy for how he is either. I actually think he puts himself in a category for people who are terrible when really he isn't. He blames himself for not being the hero. He's really just a broken person, a survivor, not a truly bad man.
the fucked up ones gravitate towards each other like magnets. Darkness doesn't seek out the light. It smothers the light, and it revels in the light's death. And there is nothing more dangerous than darkness that doesn't have an outlet.

Enter Indie. She was a person in 'the light' but not now. Indie went through total hell. This isn't easy stuff to read, but it makes you feel. Indie and Kick are just two pieces of matter floating around in their fucked up world. The question is can they help each other?

The writing was excellent. This storyline is like none I remember. Often I get MC books confused with each other. There will be no danger of that here. This story knocked me for a good one. I definitely will continue with the series. And I want to add that I appreciate Kick, a guy who is attracted to the women who are damaged. In most reads the bad boy has a chick that's all his, a sweet one breaks through his shell. Kick likes the whores, the losers, the ones who've been molested and gang raped, the ones most men wouldn't get near.

FGMAMTC Blog Review  Trailer, Excerpt & Giveaway
Will and North were inseparable growing up. They live in a small community made up of fishermen and steel mill workers. All citizens have lived in Red Maine their entire lives and know everything about each other. People don't even lock their doors! And homosexuality is not accepted at all.

At 18, a rift separated Will and North. Twelve years have passed. Will is now known as the only gay man in town. He has taken over management of the only bar in town from his ailing father. North is just another blue collar worker who comes in to get drunk. It's a pretty sad set up.

The storyline switches from both men's POV. It also goes between past and present. In the beginning, the reader doesn't know what they went through at 18. When all the blanks are filled in, some scenes give the heart and feelings a good working-over.

The sex is super hot and delicious. Just a warning, there is a teeny bit of M/F. North tries to go the 100% hetero route, but his actions and thoughts seem to be somewhere between bi and GFY. If you're in the mood for two tough-as-nails, manual labor, alphas, you need to check this out. Finding North is full of whiskey, brawling, weed and love that conquers all.

Cake by Carmen Jenner
Starts with table of contents and a prologue of how the story really starts.
Poppy works in a wedding planner company and her own wedding got sabotaged by her best friend who now wants her to be her maid of honor.
Others try to come to her rescue over time but it gets a bit raunchy for me. Who in their right mind sends a big basket of sex toys to someone at work.
In a way I guess it could be funny but I'd not wanting this to happen to me. Did finish the book and would probably give another book a try but if they are all like this I'm not going to enjoy them.
More works from the author and acknowledgments are listed.
About the author is included at the end along with her website.

Carmen Jenner scores with PUCK LOVE. NHL bad boy, Van Ross, rescues country music sweetheart, Stella Hart, when she is stranded during a snow storm. Van is not good for Stella’s image, but they cannot deny their chemistry. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Calgary and Nashville. It is suitable for adult audiences.

PUCK LOVE is a fun romance. The characters are likeable. Van is a good guy. He is an awesome big brother to Emmett, who has Down syndrome. Stella is a gracious character. It is understandable why she freaks out. She hasn’t had much of a life outside of performing. Her mother dies when her career was just starting, and she doesn’t have any family. She is great with Emmett, treating him with respect. As different as Stella and Van are, they also have a lot of similarities and amazing chemistry. They understand what it means to be a celebrity, but can be themselves around each other. They are good together.

I love Sigi the otter. The meaning of her name made me laugh, very clever.

The plot was entertaining. There were some unexpected twists. The story held my interests throughout the novel. I could see PUCK LOVE as a movie. This is the first book that I have read by Carmen Jenner. I enjoyed her writing style and would read something by her again. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Revelry is about the band Taint just starting to make it into the big times and an assistant just trying to survive. It does have a love triangle, crude scenes and M/F/M sex. I wouldn't call this your general rock star type read. It's way more gritty than dreamy.

I fell for all of the band members immediately. They are all hot in their own unique ways. Ali didn't really totally win me over. I still thought she was an ok chick, just not a favorite. I was majorly loving the story at the beginning. When they went on tour, it lost some of the attractiveness for me. I still liked it, but I didn't have stars in my eyes anymore. The characters' flaws became more apparent, and some things brought my mood down or made me feel a little gaggy.

The sex scenes were very hot. And the emotions really pulled me in. Again Ali didn't have my complete sympathy, but I loved both men. I was pleasantly amazed by how deep these guys were.

I'm definitely looking forward to more from these band members. I think each could win my heart.

3.5 stars

FGMAMTC Blog Review  Excerpt
4—4.5 stars

This is the love story between a club hitman and a club whore, and it's a fairly dark tale full of pain in many forms including rape, drug addiction, incest, murder and major violence. Tank is about two broken people finding someone who can look past all of their faults and love the person underneath.

Both Tank and Ivy grew up with abuse beyond measure. The things they've seen and lived through are heartbreaking. Because of their experiences, both are able to see through the characteristics in each other which would cause society to put them in the useless or better off dead category.

Most of the storyline is deep and dark, requiring bravery to read, some parts bleeding over into horror, but going through this journey with the characters eventually leads to an uplifting feeling. If they can still get up in the morning, most of us should be able to conquer the world.

If you read book one, you know it wasn't a light read. This was even heavier but better in my opinion.

If you go into this remembering the ages of the main couple and that at 19 hormones still ruled the body over rational thinking then some of the things like cheating and being wishy washy on feelings won’t be an issue.

Holly Harris was the sex crazed best friend to Ana who was the lead in the first book. By the end of that book she had found herself knock up by her rockin roll boyfriend she had broken up with when he went off to further his career. Now she is living with her best friend Ana and her fiancé and Ana’s cousin Jackson. Holly and Jackson had a short time fling when she was younger that didn’t end well so these two are constantly at each other’s throats but yet the sexual sparks are still there.

Holly is extremely horny (or I should say hornier) with her pregnancy. She and Jackson finally give in and decide they will use each other to scratch their itches as long as the other realizes that’s all it will be. Jackson has a very jaded view on relationships due to his childhood and he uses sex with women to mask having to ever deal with his true feelings.

When the baby daddy Coop comes back to town along with Jackson’s ex-fiancé things get all kinds of messed up. Towards the beginning of the book there is also a tragedy that affects them all and the town. If you read the first book you’d know I was worried about what horrible tragic things the author was going to shock us with but alas that was the only big on this book which I was grateful for.

Both Holly and Jackson make some decisions that are wrong but yet make sense for people their ages to make but by the end they both have done some growing up and finally make the right choice.

I don’t think I’ve seen sugar sweet, humor and intense dark situations be mixed in one book. Even after sleeping on it I am not sure how I feel about this book. There are many pieces of it I liked very much. The characters were all great and the setup of the next book has me wanting to read it but I guess my issue is with the dark parts. I like dark books when you know that it’s a dark book going into it, you’re prepared mentally for it going in. But the warning on this book leaves out two very important things. An extreme sexual assault in a very intense scene and a then a rape in another scene. I don’t understand quite why the author chose to show us this 19 year old virgin who bakes pies for a living in the pie shop that was her mother’s dream before she died of cancer, is basically is raising her 6 year old step brother who has the cutest lisp, has a man whore as a best friend but no matter what these two have each other’s back and then rips her world apart not once but twice.
__COULD BE CONSIDERED SPOILERISH__
The first 50 percent of the book was very humorous watching Ana and Elijah fall in love. Her the very mature but innocent 19 year and him the mysterious bad boy stranger who comes to town to work in her father’s motorcycle garage. You knew Elijah had a bad past but we were given no specifics until right before that first intense scene 50 percent in. I am assuming the author wanted to make us as shocked as Ana was when a group a Hell’s Angels assault them. Now I’m all for slowly letting us get to know the characters which the first 50% of the book was but by the hero not telling Ana anything she was so traumatized over what happened she ends up getting herself in another situation with devastating consequences. Until the very end of the book the heroine only knows violence when it comes to penetration sex.

In the end I can say I couldn’t put the book down until I’d finished it. But its left such a bitter taste in my mouth I cant really decide how I really feel about it. I'm going to give it a 4 rating as the first half of the book was very funny and engaging and even though the 2nd half was some very dark stuff I was still rooting for Ana and Elijah to get their HEA.

Where to start? This story was beautiful and tragic, and a bit naughty, which I consoled myself with during the tragic bits. Every girl dreams of marrying her best friend, yet sometimes being so close can make you care too much about the other person to ever want to hurt them. Harley and Rose epitomize the tragic love story, and as I write this review through a veil of tears, I'll admit I loved it.

Wow. This book had me feeling so many emotions in just a few hours that I have a book hangover. I laughed out loud at so many parts while reading this, especially when Holly was involved. I felt the lust that Ana felt for Elijah. The disappointment she felt with him. And I cried. OMG, did I cry. This book was ugly and beautiful, funny as could be and serious at times, and horrible and fantastic all at once. This book is definitely getting my recommendation to be read. Just be careful, it could cause triggers because of the sexual abuse. I loved this book and can't wait to dive into the next one.

4.5 stars! This book started out a little fluffy. We were introduced to Ana, a sweet little pie maker who spends her days whipping together perfect pie recipes in her sweet little bakery in Sugartown. Yep, all fairytalish and stuff...

It actually started to remind me of the movie Waitress with Keri Russell (good movie, BTW!)but wait...it gets better. Sexy bad-ass biker Elijah comes to town and enjoys Ana's pies so much that he soon wants more than just a slice! LOL! Then the sweet bubble gummy romance crap ends!

Whoa!! And it's almost as if Madeline Sheehan stepped in smacked the writer in the face! (and I mean that as a compliment!) Then it starts to get interesting. We learn that Elijah is running from a bad past and danger is following him. Call me twisted but as tragedy is happening, I'm jumping up and down with excitement! Elijah would make Deuce's Hell's Horsemen proud! Oh yeah! Just my kind of fuckedupedness!

My only complaint is that I thought it ended in the wrong place. I turned the page and realized it was over! That sucked! I wanted more! It loses half a point for that! Other than that, it rocked!!

I loved this book! I want to read more of their story now, but I think Jackson's book is next. A week later Ana & Elijah are STILL in my head, and I've read 2 books since then! I love characters that stay with you, and I think the vivid nature that Jenner described their surroundings helped.

POV: Alternating first-person between the main characters, Elijah and Ana

Romance: This book is a typical romance where the good girl falls for the bad boy who does bad things for good reasons. There's actually very little actual romance and a whole lotta steamy chemistry. If you like reading hot scenes you'll probably enjoy this.
Insta-Love: Yes Love Triangle: No Cheating: Yes

Plot and Pacing: For the first 40% of this book almost nothing happens. Ana and Elijah meet, there's lots of sexy talk and a couple of steamy scenes but in terms of plot, not much is happening. Just before the halfway mark, things pick up a little bit. A lot actually. Some pretty horrific things happen and there are a couple of violent and somewhat graphic scenes in particular that may be hard for some readers. Then things stagnate again. The pacing here felt a little off to me the whole time. I never felt like things were building toward a satisfying climax (no pun intended). The storyline, or what there was of one, was resolved by the end but I really felt pretty "meh" about it.

Characters: I liked Ana. She was a strong female character who stood up for herself but still had some vulnerability. I did not particularly care for Elijah. I would have preferred to read the entire story from Ana's perspective. He was an extremely immature character and seemed like the stereotypical young male - his world revolves around his you-know-what. The chapters from his POV frequently mention his dick twitching or jerking and Ana's big, beautiful tits. Much of his language is vulgar. I'm not a complete prude and I don't mind some vulgar language but it seemed repetitive here.

Cliffhanger: No

Overall: This book was just not for me. I usually stay away from New Adult Romance for this exact reason. There's usually some really great sex scenes but very little plot, as was the case here. It's a shame, really, because the author can write well. The dialogue was great, the characters were interesting and the descriptions were fantastic. There just wasn't a lot of substance to this book and the plot-line wasn't all that original. Fans of this genre and those who like a lot of steam and don't mind the lack of substance will like this a whole lot more than I did, I'm sure.

Also, there's one chapter - only one! - from the POV of Holly, Ana's best friend. It was completely unnecessary. It comes towards the end of the book and is basically there to set the stage for the second book in the series which is about Holly and Jackson. The chapter is not needed to start their story. The reader already has all the info they need about Holly going in to book two. It was a little jarring and further hurt the pacing of the book. It wasn't badly written, just not needed.

On a side note, I downloaded this book partially because I think the cover is pretty stunning. However, the more I look at it, the more it bothers me. It bothers me that the girl looks like she's hanging on the guy while he's looking away and seems like he couldn't care less. Like, "yeah, I know I'm hot and all the chicks want me." I don't know. The cover is still gorgeous, I just wish the pose was different.
