As the subtitle suggests, this book contains many stories of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It covers stories that you might not have known about: the contributions of women, Chinese navvies, and Indigenous people are highlighted, and the company’s ventures in the air and sea methods of travel are discussed as well. There’s even a bibliography for further reading.

The book is written in a way that you don’t have to read the whole thing straight through; you could easily jump around from one chapter to another without losing too much context. The short vignettes make it perfect for picking up and putting down as the mood strikes.The book is attractively put together, with a gorgeous vintage-travel-poster-style cover and chapter illustrations and plenty of photographs. A couple of the photographs were spread a bit awkwardly over two pages and one in particular had a person identified in the caption who was trapped in the binding. I did also notice some goofy spelling errors. But for the most part I was very pleased with this book and would recommend it for those who like to read about Canadian history and/or trains.… (mehr)
