Fanfuckingtastic! This was one of the best murder mystery stories that I've read in a very long time. It reminded me of the Hitchcock mysteries in its style. It wasn't as gory as I thought it would be but there was genital mutilation. I started to think that the ending was weak when wham Mr. Kaine hit me with a mind blowing ending true to the Hitchcock style. The only negative that I found is that Mr. Kaine needs to work on making his dialogue more realistic sounding. Highly recommended.

Mikhail lives in a world on the brink. Humanity is slowly being eradicated by vampires and their only hope are the Daevas--humans with special psychic abilities. Mikhail, upon discovering he is a Daeva, is sent to a military academy to train with others of his kind. The Daeva armies hope to bring down the vampires and the threat the pose to continued existence on the planet. But neither Mikhail or anyone else on his team have ever seen a vampire; they have only the information they've been given as a source. And when Mikhail is on a mission and encounters one for the first time, he finds that he suddenly has more questions than answers.

Anyone who has followed my reviews will know that I am a huge fan of the post-apocalyptic dystopian theme--sometimes I can't get enough of it. And that's precisely why I picked up this title. It's engaging and certainly has me wondering what's going to happen in the rest of the series. The reason it didn't pull a higher rating from me was that I felt it was incomplete. I know it's part of a series and the rest of the story is yet to come, but on its own there just wasn't enough here. The characters and relationships don't get enough time to really pull someone in to be truly invested in it. Some more background might have helped with that, but it is what it is. The action of the story that comes later is active enough to make up for it in some ways.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. It seemed a bit slow at first and it took a while for me to get into it. Once the story picked up, however, it got really good. I admit to being a bit shocked at a twist. Very well written. Cliffhanger was a bit of a stinker but luckily book 2 is already available. Just hope that one doesn't have a major cliffie. I hate waiting. lol

I'm at a loss for words... How do I express what this book did to me?

Talk about twists and turns. Unexpected, macabre, dark and twisted all come to mind when I think about what this book made me feel. Usually in a "who done it" you manage to have an inkling somewhere along the line about who the bad guy is. Well, let me tell you, this one? Oh no. not a clue until the end. Truly edge-of-the-seat kind of stuff.

Add to this an on-again-off-again relationship with two sexy MC's and some hot smexing, and you have a true winner right here!

All I want to add is Mr Kaine; if this is the kind of thing that lurks in your mind...please share more of it!
