The Kipling Files by Sudhir Kakar is a fascinating exploration of Rudyard Kipling's life and work through the lens of psychoanalysis. Kakar, a renowned psychoanalyst, delves deep into Kipling's writing, particularly his often-controversial depictions of India, to uncover the psychological underpinnings that shaped his worldview.

One of the most impressive aspects of this book is its blend of literary analysis and psychoanalytic theory. Kakar draws from a wide range of disciplines, including anthropology, history, and literature, to provide a rich and nuanced exploration of Kipling's work. He examines Kipling's characters, exploring their motivations and behaviors, and situates them within the context of Kipling's life experiences and the cultural milieu of his time.

Kakar also provides insight into Kipling's own psyche and the impact of his childhood on his writing. He delves into Kipling's relationship with his parents, particularly his mother, and how their influence is evident in his work. Kakar's psychoanalytic interpretation of Kipling's writing is an intriguing and fresh approach to understanding the author's complex legacy.

The Kipling Files is a thought-provoking and engaging read that offers a unique perspective on a literary giant. Kakar's writing is clear and concise, and he presents his analysis in an accessible manner that will appeal to both scholars and general readers. His ability to combine psychoanalytic theory with literary analysis is a testament to his expertise in both fields.

In conclusion, The Kipling Files is an insightful and illuminating book that will appeal to anyone with an interest in literature, psychoanalysis, or cultural history. Sudhir Kakar's exploration of Rudyard Kipling's work through a psychoanalytic lens provides a fascinating look at one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.

The book is based on letters between Madeline and Ghandi with some eyewitness stories of the author himself. The author then uses artistic license to fill in the rest.

Early in the book I was reminded of Seinfeld show .. "I hate anyone that ever had a pony when they were growing up...." Madeline, the "seeker" of the story, got a pony for her birthday. Somehow, the perseverance of the author (like Madeline) made me warm up to Madeline.

But as I continued, I got lost. Or maybe just got bored. Besides the movie with Ben Kingsley watched ten years ago, I'm lacking in Ghandi lore.

> Psycha Analyse : SUDHIR KAKAR - BIBLIOGRAPHIE ET BIOGRAPHIE (5 Pages - 357 Ko)

> Sudhir Kakar est l'un des rares psychanalystes indiens. Auteur de "Moksha" et de "La folle et le Saint" (avec Catherine Clément) il s'essaye ici, un peu maladroitement, au roman pour nous conter l'histoire imaginée de Vatsyayana l'auteur du célèbre Kama Sutra.
