This story touches my heart and made me feel kind of bad at the same time. I am biracial; my mother is white and my father is black. As a child, I too, experienced almost all of the things Trevor explained in this book. This book is important for biracial children no matter what races they may be. This book is good for children who aren't biracial to read as well so that they can understand what biracial means and how biracial people feel when inappropriate questions are asked concerning their race. Growing up biracial isn’t easy, and we learn some of the challenges faced in this story. “Trevor’s Story” written by Kandel goes into to his life as a biracial fifth grader. Trevor talks about life at school and home, about how other kids treat him because his mother is white and his father is black. One page actually says he wishes he could fight people who make fun of him, but his parents encourage him to challenge his energy other ways. From the beginning to end Trevor says that he identifies as both black and white, he doesn’t want to pick just one race to embrace. Trevor says that we are all the same kind (human) with different skin tones.… (mehr)
