I read a lot of YA fiction, and I'm not a YA, so I may get some of the youth's memery wrong in this review.
Alba: Everybody wants to move away from my Australian country town, but I'd be happy to just stay!
Me, who grew up gay in a country town: Mmmmmmmmmmmmm can't relate.
Alba: And all that yummy boy abs, you know?
Me: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
And it's weird, because I really liked Alba, and I was really rooting for her? But I just could not relate to her at all as a character. I really enjoyed a lot of things about this book and I'm going to go check out others, so I'm hoping that that is just a blip in Melissa Keil's books, because of the mood I'm in or because of the way her character was written. This was not only a love story about Sam and Camilla, and how opposites attract. It was also a book about a group of friends and how they all work together to take care of each other. I loved that! The kids were likeable and the book itself was very well written. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to reading more of this author's work.

Personally, I found Sophia fairly unrelatable and while I liked Josh a bit better I thought he was pushy the way he tried to win Sophia over. The plot plodded along with very few moments of excitement or drama, and I was glad to finally reach the end. Overall, a disappointing, bland read.… (mehr)
