I really really want to finish this, and I keep borrowing it and inching forward. I think it’s possible the characters are interesting. But where’s the power, the emotional catch, in the romance?

...Compared with the MM romance which is filled with backbreaking emotional charge. Even frothy romantic comedies like Red White and Royal Blue which everyone is currently watching on Amazon has some sentimental heart-throbby depth.

I need some recommendations for some good FF romance.

(Later) I pushed on with this and it did get better, the way Liz is pulled in many directions in the midst of work and personal twists and turns.

Liz is also puzzling her way through her identity, an identity that will fit true to her, will feel comfortable ... an example of one of the many contemporary twists Camile Kellogg gives the Elizabeth of Pride and Prejudice she uses as the inspiration, or the model for her novel.

A very fast and enjoyable read.
It mostly followed the plot points set by pride and prejudice but took some much needed creative liberty to bring it into the 21st century and make it make sense here.
Liz seemed very quickly aware that she was attracted to Daria, which is a deviation from the original but fit better for these characters. The book also drove home much more that both Liz and Daria had to change to make a relationship work, not just one of them.

There was quite a few times where they talked about gender expression through clothing which wasn't relatable to me lersonally but I could imagine people loving this since it isn't discussed a lot in other queer literature I've read so far.

If I remember correctly there were exactly three sentences by men throughout the entire book and only one of them was named. I'm not going to complain about it since there's still more than enough media that doesn't pass bechdel
