- Classical scholar and spiritual teacher Peter Kingsley was born in the UK. He received his BA from the University of Lancaster, his Master of Letters from King's College, University of Cambridge, and his PhD from the University of London. He has been made honorary Professor at the University of New Mexico and Canada's Simon Fraser University. He is a former Fellow of the Warburg Institute in London.
Kingsley's early writings are traditionally academic, and culminate in the 1995 Ancient Philosophy, Mystery, and Magic: Empedocles and Pythagorean Tradition. His more recent works, in particular In the Dark Places of Wisdom and Reality, emphasize the lived experience and daily application of the mystical tradition of the ancient western world.
He continues to write and teach, working to make the spirituality and meditative disciplines of Empedocles, Parmenides, and those like them available to people today. To this end, he gives talks and leads workshops and retreats near his home in Asheville, North Carolina and around the country.
