Ted Kluck, a jaded journalist, a lifelong football player, and a burned-out coach spends a year immersed in late 1970s football in Past Time, part memoir and part Bill Jamesian exploration into football nerdery. Good if you are interested in the different church movements or the emergent church, specifically. that's obvious enough. Not terribly helpful as an exhortation to better living and Christ likeness. But very informative.

Taking as their cue the fact that I Corinthians 6:19 doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't smoke cigars (and pipes), pace Spurgeon, "to the glory of God," these two authors present The Christian Gentleman's Smoking Companion. Part irreverent guide to cigars and smoking, capsule biographies of smoking Christians (Spurgeon, Lewis, Tolkien, etc.), and part random call outs to society and church foibles. Not everyone's cup of tea, and some of their cigar guidance is geared to the neophyte, but, generally a good-natured and good-willed discussion of cigars, manliness, and Christianity as calm, reverent contemplation and conversation provided under the incense-smoke of cigars. While the information shared about Lin was quite interesting, you can tell that it was a bit rushed during the height if Lin madness.

This book recounts the story of a relationship which occasions the discipleship of a young man through his first steps with God. The restoration of the car is a good idea as far as the telling of the story goes, though the book can get caught up more with answering questions that with just telling a story.
