Sort of a connect the dots story of the Brits in the Pacific at the end of WW2. Interminable love story goes on and on. Main character wooden and not very interesting. Doug Reeman did it better in less words and more interestingly. On the non fiction side, Old Friends, New Enemies: The Royal Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy, vol. 1 & 2,, 1936-1941 by Arthur Marder provides more detail and reads almost as well...

A tidy story about the dying days of WWII in the Pacific, with the POV from an "I" class British Aircraft carrier. Kamikazes were particuliarly nerve-wracking.
