Hurricane Harry is a chapter book that tells a story about a family and others that are currently experiencing a Hurricane. This is a chapter book that would be great for students the age of eight to ten, depending on their reading level. Throughout the book, the reader learns about hurricanes in a storytelling way. This is engaging as well as informational which is perfect for young students. One of the really great features of this book is the additional information that has been included at the ends of the book. It has “did you know?” facts, hurricane safety tips, as well as a hurricane scale. This is a great addition for students to see because they are able to see the important information in one place after reading the story.… (mehr)

Read aloud to my 7 year old. Not one of the best we've read, but not terribly horrible either.

Justin Davies wants to become a politician. He plans on running as 5th grade student council president. He gets a chance to test his political skills when his history teacher gives the class a project and a king and queen are chosen. But things don't quite go as planned.

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you were a king or a queen? When Mr. Bailey assigns a King and Queen of the fifth grade history class during a study of the French Revolution, Justin, who is already convinced he wants to be class president, knows he is the man for the job. He earns the title by writing an award winning essay. Andrea becomes queen. They get to be king and queen for two whole weeks! Their classmates must do what they tell them to, or they can send them to the dungeon. While king and queen both Justin and Andrea try to buy votes for the upcoming class president election but end up turning people against them. This is a very funny story but also has a lesson about leadership, teamwork, power and politics.
