This book should be required reading for all medical professionals and medical students. It tells the tragic story of Dr. Harold Lear, a well respected urologist who suffered a severe heart attack and thus became a patient, having the tables turned on him so to speak. Though the physicians who treated him rendered superb care for the most part, others were clearly incompetent and at time times his care was shockingly poor despite the fact that he himself was a physician. After undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, a devastating complication set in which essentially ruined his ability to interact normally with others. It's said that every physician should be a patient at least once so that he can see things from their perspective. The sad tale related here is a prime example of that dictum.… (mehr)

Pretty awful. Heard a good review on NPR and gave a copy to a friend before I read it. Sorry Martha.

Interesting - and reassuring - account of normal memory loss that everyone faces. A little disorganized, but has some good info in intelligible form.
