historical novelist - Kurzbiographie
- Little is known about the origins and life of Marguerite de Lussan. Fortunée Briquet says in her Dictionnaire historique, littéraire et bibliographique (1804) that she was born in Paris, the illegitimate daughter of Prince Louis Thomas of Savoy-Carignan, comte de Soissons, who gave her a good education. At age 25, she befriended Pierre Daniel Huet, the scholar and Bishop of Avranches, who encouraged her to publish her writings. Her other illustrious friends included her paternal uncle Prince Eugène of Savoy and the Prince de Condé. She became a prolific writer of historical novels over a span of 30 years, beginning in 1727 with Histoire de la comtesse de Gondès.
