- Catherine Borland married Sir George Macartney in 1898 and travelled with him to one of the most remote places on earth -- Kashgar in Turkestan. He served there as the British Consul General. Lady Macarthy lived in Kashgar for 17 years and extended her hospitality to many famous travellers. She also assisted archeologists working on the Buddhist library cave at Dunhuang.
