26 years old and still unmarried, Kathleen is an outcast in her time. She lives her life for herself and dances to the beat of her own drummer. A strange way for a woman to live in the 1800’s? Absolutely. What other’s don’t see, is that Kathleen has a secret that no one…not even those closest to her….would ever guess. It’s this secret that earns her a ton of one-on-one time with hottie Dr. Duncan. Duncan is new in town, single, gorgeous, and he’s a Dr….so you know he’s good with his…hands. Did I mention that he’s a hot, single, doctor? Just sayin’.

Duncan is searching desperately for the girl of his dreams. This is a man who wants to settle down, and now. But not with just anyone…oh no…he has his perfect woman all mapped out from looks to attitude. Fate has a different idea and…he finds Kathleen instead. She isn’t the one he has been dreaming about…but there is something about her that he just can’t get past. He needs to get to know her. When he discovers the secret she has been keeping…one that would get her killed if it got out…he takes advantage and trades her friendship for his silence. A little greasy of him, but an effective way to get her attention at least.

Kathleen is not the type that likes being forced to do anything, so Duncan’s blackmail of having her “spend some quality time with him” less than impresses her. Can’t really blame the girl in that way. I mean, I am all for sexy doctors wanting some attention, but if you gotta force her to be with you…not cool Dr. Hot Stuff. For the record, when Duncan says “spend time with”, that’s what he really means. No sex, no kissy, nothing like that at all. Just some old fashioned getting to know one another. What a sweet guy….good place for an “Awwww” moment I think.

I loved the storyline. Old fashioned, headstrong girl with a huge secret meets hunky newcomer doctor. Even her mother loves this guy. Match made in heaven? I think so. The characters were well done and believable. Although I wouldn’t have thought that an outcast like Kathleen would have made a good heroine, Barbara Mack makes it work.

The only thing I found about the story is that it could have been longer. This was a quick read and a novella to begin with, but I found that too much was going on in a short span. There could have been more courting going on (yes, I said courting…the book is set back in the day, so I figured…why not) and maybe a bit more conflict than there really was. A little meat added to the story would not have been minded. For a short story though, I really enjoyed it.

This is a review of Dreaming of You by Barbara Mack. This is my opinion of the book and not a paid review. Please be aware that this review may contain spoilers.

At the time I got this book it was a free book at the Kindle Store. As of today the book is priced at $1.99.

While this is a very short story this was a good interesting read. There are two main characters in this book Duncan who is a doctor and Kathleen who is a 26 year old outcast.

Kathleen is an outcast because she is so old. In the 1800's any female over the age of 21 was considered on the shelf and un-marriageable. Kathleen is not concerned she is more interested in helping people especially people in the Underground Railroad. This is her big secret.

Duncan has a secret also. He has dreamed about Kathleen for years. But he has never saw her face in the dreams. he just knows that he will know the woman when he sees her. When he meets Kathleen at a gathering he knows that she is the one.

When Duncan learns of Kathleen's secret he get's her to agree to spend time with him. Kathleen thinks that Duncan want's sex to avoid telling everyone her secret but Duncan's goal is to get to know Kathleen.

While this is a very short book that can be read in under an hour it was very good and interesting. I liked how the author drew in the Underground Railroad into the plot.

The bunnies and I give this book 4 Carrots.

I read alot of historical fiction, and I must say that this was probably the shortest historical fiction work that I have read to date, but don't be fooled even though its short on length its not short on story. The characters are very well developed. Kathleen is a character who is easy to like, she willingly jeopardizes her own safety to help with the Underground Railroad. New to town Dr. Duncan Murdoch learns of Kathleen's secret and when he asks her to spend time with him in exchange for his silence Kathleen can only agree but wonders just what he expects.

I thought the characters were very well drawn out, there was more to Kathleen than first met the eye. The author had me wondering what the secret was that Dr. Murdoch knew about her. I liked that Kathleen was a strong character, but also had a vulnerable side as well.If your looking for a quick read that gives a bit of sexual tension along with romance, a bit of mystery, with a historical setting that will pull you in and leave you satisfied with the ending, your certainly going to enjoy this one!

As a UK reader, the history of the America is translated vaguely through half remembered Westerns. This novella brings the struggle against slavery, the flavour of the Deep South and the conflicting passions of two living beings into an absorbing and sexy read. It's the kind of book you can read with your own passions set free, feeling the chemistry between the two characters blending like in an opera duet, moving closer together until they meet in the unison of their climax. I chanced to find Barbara Mack on Kindle. The richness of her writing reveals sincere passion for her work. She sets out to get you tasting, smelling and tingling. And wanting more!
