Bobbie Malone

You may not think you know this songwriting duo, but you do--at least you know their songs. Their most well known partnership was with the Everly Brothers, but they also wrote many other songs. They were extraordinary partners, in their marriage as well as their songwriting. Theirs was very much a joint effort, on almost every song; that is, it wasn't that one of them wrote the words and the other the music. They were the first fulltime songwriters to move to Nashville to make their living solely from writing songs. They had extraordinary partnerships with musicians, artists, producers, and others throughout their career. I learned a lot about the music industry, and of course, about sexism in the music business--Felice was often not fully recognized for her contributions. I really encourage everyone to read the book, and whether you do or not, to learn more about the Bryants.
It is a bonus that the book was written by two people we actually know, and respect as scholars, historians, and musicians.… (mehr)
