Daniel A. Marcus

Marcus does a first-rate job of teaching the reader by example. His method of introducing concepts bit-by-bit through a series of problems that build upon earlier examples is innovative. The back cover says that the book is suitable "for self study," and I would agree. All a student need do is work through the problems, and he'll learn the material.

This is especially interesting to me as a Computer Science major. He has chapters on strings, combinations, and even an entire chapter devoted to recurrence relations. This was the text for the most interesting math class I ever took.… (mehr)
