Rezensionen

'He raised his head as she approached. His eyes, blue as a bright winter sky, lit with awareness. He brazenly scanned her in the same way he used to check out some of the other girls in school, but never her. Her heart pounded, the sound pulsing in her ears.'

Plot

Jewelry designer Graceann Palmer has two days to hire a fiancé to bring home for the holidays; to bring a stop to her mother's matchmaking. Jake Falco, also known as The Falcon, helped Graceann once before, so she takes a chance and asks him for his help once more.

Jake Falco is a man full of mysteries and is back in his old hometown on a mission. When Graceann asks him to be his pretend fiancé over the holidays, he sees it as a chance to get something he's always wanted; getting to know Graceann.

As they pretend to be a couple in love, it starts to feel like the real thing, until Jake's secrets are revealed. Graceann and her family are left feeling betrayed by Jake's revelation, but can Graceann see past it?

My thoughts

This is another book that I saw on NetGalley and thought it would be great to read in the weeks leading up to Christmas. This is a short story and it only took me a few days to read it.

The concept of this story is great. Graceann's mother is always trying to set her up and marry her off. She means well, but the men she thinks are good for her, are far from Graceann's ideals. Graceann wants to show her family, especially her mother, that she's happy with her life as it is, without a man in it. So she hires Jake to be her pretend fiancé so she can show her mother that she's capable of choosing men for herself.

Graceann should really have just told her family the truth, but of course that wouldn't have made much of a story. She's adamant that she doesn't need a man to be happy, but she's soon changing her mind when she finds herself having feelings for Jake. She certainly didn't expect to start falling for him when she made the deal with him, and fully expected that she'd be able to walk away from him after the holidays. Of course, over the holidays, sparks flew between the pair and they suddenly felt like they weren't pretending anymore.

I loved Jake's character. He clearly has his own issues and these are revealed as he starts to open up to Grace. He hides his insecurities with cockiness and bravado, but this really made him a loveable and funny character. He made me chuckle on more than one occasion, and for me, he made this book really special.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it was a fantastic light-hearted read full of Christmas cheer; everything you need in a Christmas book. It's funny, romantic, and definitely recommended to anyone looking for a cheerful Christmas story.

This is my first book but Cara Marsi and I love Christmas romance so I was optimistic for this book. She didn’t disappoint me. The book was just what I like to read in Christmas stories; love, romance, Christmas scenes and great characters. All of these were present in this book. The author did a great good in detailing the characters and the snow scenes were very descriptive so that you felt like you were right then in the story.

This book was about a young woman who’s meddling mother wants her married with children. After a disappointing relationship with a loser, Graceann Palmer isn’t ready for a relationship again but doesn’t want to go home for the holidays to listen to her mother. She comes up with the perfect plan; hire someone to be her fiancé. When she meets, Jake Falco in a dinner who she knew in high school, she thinks he’ll be the perfect person to pay him to play the part. Jake Falco has a bad boy image from his past and sore feelings about their home town but he jumps at the opportunity to get to know Graceann better. Unfortunately, he doesn’t tell the truth about who and what he has become to Graceann and during the time they spend together at her parents’ house for the holidays, she falls in love with him until the truth comes out. Then she has to make a decision on whether to follow her heart or her head.

I highly recommend this book to all of us romance, happily ever after readers because you won’t be disappointed.

This was a short book, but packed a punch. Lot's of action in this suspense/romance book and lots of heat between Lexi and Dominic.

Lexi may have gone to Italy to forget and start a new life, but she never bargained for being in the middle of an international crime.
